Loan Options
Angus Health and Social Care Partnership have a range of equipment solutions available for loan (free of charge) from Independent Living Angus. Small adaptations can also be arranged once owner/ landlord permissions have been obtained, usually free of charge. There is a weekly cost associated with the community alarm and tele-care service.
It is very important that the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership know that the equipment they loan is suitable for both you, other household members and your home.

Angus Community Alarm Service
Angus Council provide a Community Alarm Service. They can fit an alarm unit in your home that operates through your phone line. If the alarm is activated, a member of their call centre will contact you and assistance can be provided from community alarm teams who are based in Arbroath, Brechin, Carnoustie and Forfar.
The Community Alarm Service provide a 24-hour service, every day of the year, at a weekly charge of £4.90. A community alarm can be provided if you have an illness, are frail or have a disability which limits your ability to live at home alone, have been in hospital and need some extra support when you come home, or have someone caring for you who needs extra support.
A range of accessories can also be provided with your community alarm system, such as a falls detector. A falls detector will raise an automatic call to the monitoring centre, who in turn will arrange assistance through a responder. There is an additional charge of £1.00 per week for accessories.
There are also a few items which you can trial for a period of 4 weeks if you are not sure whether they will be suitable for you - ie an Echo dot, remote control plugs, night lights.

If you would like to stimulate conversation for people with dementia, memory boxes can be booked out from your local library if you are a member.

Groups that can help with maintaining a healthy weight
You have answered that your clothes size has increased in the last 3 to 6 months.
If this has happened without you trying to, and is something that you would like help with, you may find that exercising or participating in group activities may help. If you don't feel confident, we have found going with someone you know might help.

Help for those who often forget mealtimes

At some point in our lives, many of us due to illness, disability or old age will need some form of support with everyday things like getting washed, dressing or cooking a meal. This help is often called social care.
Asking for help is sometimes the hardest thing to do, however, Angus Council/ Angus Health and Social Care Partnership provide a range of social care services to suit people's needs.

Independent sources of help and advice for older people
Age UK and Age Scotland are dedicated to helping everyone make the most of later life. Age Scotland can provide you with a range of information resources.
They also are working in partnership with Silver Line Scotland to provide a national helpline providing information, friendship and advice to older people, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

We are also trying to raise awareness in relation to Purple Alert. Purple Alert is a free mobile phone app designed by people living with dementia and their carers with Alzheimer’s Scotland, Police Scotland, Social Work, Dementia Friends, Dementia Friends Scotland, Health and Social Care Partnerships and telecare services.
The app allows carers to share the person living with dementia’s profile (with consent) if they lose their way and allows for eyes and ears on the ground immediately helping to find them.
Purple Alert is the first app of its kind in the UK and it is available for free download to iOS and Android smartphones. You can find out more about Purple Alert by visiting purplealert.org.uk/

Local help to make your home warmer and more energy efficient
Scarf is a vibrant and value-driven social enterprise, headquartered in Aberdeen, delivering services across the north east of Scotland, including Angus.
Scarf aim to make a practical difference to people living in fuel poverty and provide a range of services that focus on fuel poverty, energy efficiency, sustainable living and carbon reduction.
Scarf deliver energy advice programmes, such as Home Energy Scotland (funded by the Scottish Government and managed by the Energy Saving Trust). This programme provides free, impartial advice on energy efficiency, affordable warmth, all types of renewable energy, sustainable transport and water efficiency.
Angus HEAT (Home Energy Advice Team) is Scarf's in-home, in-depth energy service which provides advice on energy efficiency, as well as advocacy and assistance on dealing with tariffs, fuel debt and metering issues.
