Loan Options
Angus Health and Social Care Partnership have a range of equipment solutions available for loan (free of charge) from Independent Living Angus. Small adaptations can also be arranged once owner/ landlord permissions have been obtained, usually free of charge. There is a weekly cost associated with the community alarm and tele-care service.
It is very important that the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership know that the equipment they loan is suitable for both you, other household members and your home.

Angus Health and Social Care Partnership have an agreed list of loan items however there are other providers who exist that also supply similar items. As we have not checked their products we are unable to advise on their suitability. The guidance below offers basic advice if you are purchasing products yourself privately.

Angus Council provide a Community Alarm Service. They can fit an alarm unit in your home that operates through your phone line. If the alarm is activated, a member of their call centre will contact you and assistance can be provided from community alarm teams who are based in Arbroath, Brechin, Carnoustie and Forfar.
The Community Alarm Service provide a 24-hour service, every day of the year. A community alarm can be provided if you have an illness, are frail or have a disability which limits your ability to live at home alone, have been in hospital and need some extra support when you come home, or have someone caring for you who needs extra support. There is a weekly cost associated with the community alarm service but we will explain this to you.
A range of accessories can also be provided with your community alarm system, such as a falls detector. A falls detector will raise an automatic call to the monitoring centre, who in turn will arrange assistance through a responder. There is an additional charge of £1.00 per week for accessories.
There are also a few items which you can trial for a period of 4 weeks if you are not sure whether they will be suitable for you - ie an Echo dot, remote control plugs, night lights.

At some point in our lives, many of us will need some form of help and support with everyday things like getting washed, dressing or cooking a meal. This help and support is often called social care.
Asking for help is sometimes the hardest thing to do, but Angus Council/ Angus Health and Social Care Partnership can provide a range of social care services to suit people's needs. You may also want to consider trialling a hydration system. This is available for a loan period of up to 4 weeks and helps with fluid intake and dehydration concerns. The hydration system prompts people to take regular drinks via friendly voice messages and reminder light settings. A nightlight function is also available which allows the user to easily locate their drink during the night.

Kirriemuir Connections is a dementia friendly community hub offering information, advice and support to people living with dementia, their carers and families. This service works in partnership with Alzheimer's Scotland and Angus Carers Centre.

We are also trying to raise awareness in relation to Purple Alert. Purple Alert is a free mobile phone app designed by people living with dementia and their carers with Alzheimer’s Scotland, Police Scotland, Social Work, Dementia Friends, Dementia Friends Scotland, Health and Social Care Partnerships and telecare services.
The app allows carers to share the person living with dementia’s profile (with consent) if they lose their way and allows for eyes and ears on the ground immediately helping to find them.
Purple Alert is the first app of its kind in the UK and it is available for free download to iOS and Android smartphones. You can find out more about Purple Alert by visiting purplealert.org.uk/
