Hints and tips for if you have gas appliances in your home

If you have any gas appliances in your home (e.g. a cooker or boiler), it is important that you have a carbon monoxide detector.

If a gas appliance goes wrong it can produce carbon monoxide (CO), which is an odourless poisonous gas. To protect yourself it is advisable to have a carbon monoxide detector, which will alert you if this gas is detected.

Most CO detectors beep when they are triggered, but there are some available with small L.E.D. lights, which may be a suitable alternative for anyone with a hearing impairment.

If you have both a hearing and a visual impairment, we suggest you contact the adult services department within your local council for further help and advice.
