Loan Options
Angus Health and Social Care Partnership have a range of equipment solutions available for loan (free of charge) from Independent Living Angus. Small adaptations can also be arranged once owner/ landlord permissions have been obtained, usually free of charge. There is a weekly cost associated with the community alarm and tele-care service.
It is very important that the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership know that the equipment they loan is suitable for both you, other household members and your home.

When phoning, please state that you are requesting a fire safety check. The waiting list for this service is dependent on how busy the fire service is at the time.
There is no charge made for this service at the current time and they will fit smoke alarms free of charge if required.
If you are worried about how you would hear a smoke alarm at night without your hearing aids, you can discuss this with the fire service. There are a range of solutions available that may assist you, with some of these solutions being linked to a community alarm provided by Angus Council.
If you have substantial and permanent vision loss in both eyes you may wish to register as blind or partially sighted.
Registration simply means having your name added to a confidential list of people who have a permanent sight loss. Keeping this register allows Angus Council to meet the needs of people with visual impairments. Registration is entirely voluntary, but it is required for certain financial benefits and consensus.
Your Eye Consultant will say if you are medically eligible and then certify you using approved documentation, which will then be sent to Angus Council for recording.

If you have a permanent and severe sight impairment that cannot be corrected by glasses and are having difficulty in walking around safely and/or using public transport, then you may benefit from further advice or assessment.
Angus Council/ Angus Health and Social Care Partnership have an agreement with North East Sensory Services to provide a range of support for people with visual impairments. The service aims to identify any practical problems you may be having, determine a rehab training programme, discuss any concerns that you, your family or carer may have and make referrals to other agencies, as well as offer advice and information.
This service can also offers Mobility Training, so that you can learn how to use a white cane or other techniques to assist you to get around safely. The Rehabilitation Worker will also provide basic advice on Guide Dogs.

You may also be able to trial a magiplug for up to 4 weeks and then consider the private purchase of this item if its suitable. The magiplug lets water drain away from a flooding bath or sink but it also changes colour to indicate when water is too hot.
